Designer Dog Beds for Small Dogs

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lisa_A_Mason]Lisa A Mason

Designer dog beds are one of the hottest things to hit the market for small dogs. Small breed dogs are special and they require a little pampering to make them feel comfortable and loved. Choosing one of the small dog beds designed for these amazing pups is the perfect way to pamper your pet and treat her like royalty.

Does your pet share the couch with you or take over the most comfortable chair in the house? Does he whine to get in the bed with you at night? If so, maybe he's just searching for a place to call his own that's cozy and comfortable. You can satisfy this need to have a special place by investing in a small dog bed for your pup. Once he realizes he has his own place to go to any time he needs a nap or just to relax, he may not be interested in your furniture anymore.

Buying designer dog beds is not just for show. It's something that your pet can truly benefit from. Dogs sleep for more than half of the day so she'll be spending a lot of time in the bed you choose. Therefore, you need to invest in one that is comfortable, durable and stylish. After all, you don't want it clashing with the rest of the decor and with so many different styles to choose from, it's easy to find the perfect bed for her and for you.

First, look for the style and size that suits your pet the best. This will be determined by the way he likes to lay when sleeping and the size your pet will grow when he reaches adulthood. If you have a toy breed, then the extra small size will probably fit him the best. For regular small breeds, a small or medium (depending on how the sizes run) may be a better match.

Once you find the right style and size, you can begin searching for the right color to suit the decor in the room where your pet will be spending most of her time. If you can't find the color you want, you may be able to have one custom made just for your pet. It's something to consider since the bed is an investment your small dog will use for a long time.

If you think that designer dog beds are for the spoiled pet only, think again. Doesn't your best friend deserve a nice, soft spot to lay his head down where he can be comfortable and relaxed? These beds help to keep dogs warm and a soft bed will take the pressure off your pet's bones and joints. This will keep your dog healthier and reduce the risk of injuries and medical conditions such as arthritis that can occur later in life.

Dog beds are not just for show. There are many practical reasons to buy your small dog a bed. Isn't it time you provided your pet with the luxury she deserves by choosing one of the designer dog beds suited for her unique and special needs?

Is Your Small Dog Dominating You? It Could Be Small Dog Syndrome

Is Your Small Dog Dominating You? It Could Be Small Dog Syndrome
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Deb_Gray]Deb Gray

If you have a small dog that's been acting pretty aggressive, or barking and whining a lot, is destructive or generally being a little obnoxious, you may have a case of small dog syndrome on your hands.

What is small dog syndrome?

It's the cluster of behaviors in your pet that result when there's confusion about who is the leader of the pack. All canines after all, are pack dogs, and packs have followers and leaders. Most dogs prefer being followers. But if you are letting your dog dominate you in ways you might not even recognize, then trouble begins.

What are some of the symptoms of small dog syndrome?

If your dog is confused and anxious about who's the alpha dog in your pack, here are some of the types of behaviors you might see:

Destructive - chewing your things, stuff around the house, ripping up paper, chewing door frames, and so on. Clear signs of anxiety and unrest.

Physically dominating - does your small dog jump up on your or other people? Insist on sitting in your lap when you don't necessarily invite it? What about bed time? If your dog insists on sleeping high on the bed - near the pillow - you've almost certainly got a case of small dog syndrome.

Yappy, whining, excessive barking, growling - these are all signs of a dog who thinks he's the leader in your pack group. He may not "allow" other people to approach you, or may be very aggressive with other dogs, sometimes those that are many times bigger.

Losing all potty training ability - does your dog 'mark' or pee all over the house? Poop wherever she wants? Again... the signs are there.

Is it small dog syndrome or dog separation anxiety?

There are many behaviors in common with both of these disorders; the clear sign your problem is more about separation anxiety, is that it's that these negative actions are directly related to your departure and arrival.

Dogs with separation anxiety can be very nervous, frantic and appear desperate to leave the home, trying to "find you" out in the big world. Your dog goes overboard when you get home, and can be very destructive when you're out.

Small dog syndrome on the other hand, is related more to how your dog behaves when you are around her.

Steps to take reduce small dog syndrome

This isn't a quick fix. There are many steps to undertake, but some of the obvious places to start with your small dog include:

stop carrying her around everywhere - she can walk!
don't let your dog eat off your plate or beg for treats - ignore, ignore, ignore
do not let your dog jump up on your, or jump into your lap uninvited
a sharp no and then ignoring, will help end aggressive barking

Expert trainer and "dog whisperer" Cesar Millan offers specific training on how to manage your dog, be the pack leader and enjoy a long-term, fulfilled relationship with your pet. First, he says, we must remember that your pet is indeed a DOG. All dogs are members of the same species, canine. Canines have specific needs, like lots of exercise, routine and boundaries. Canines want to work for their rewards, not trot through life with nothing but treats.

To get to the real root of small dog syndrome, read more from Cesar Millan on how dogs think and behave; you'll enjoy a whole new relationship with your toy dog if you follow his advice.

Dog Sicknesses Symptoms & Diagnosis

Dog Sicknesses Symptoms & Diagnosis

Author: Gerald Njuguna

The downside of dog ownership is that communication can sometimes be a guessing game.This is particularly true when your dog is not feeling well.Sometimes your dog may just be "off" – not as energetic or acting odd.This may be nothing but it could be a sign of a serious health issue. Educating yourself in the signs that indicate all is not right with your dog can mean the difference between life and death.

Bloat:
If your dog's belly starts to swell for no apparent reason, this could be an indication that she is suffering from Bloat – a condition in which the abdomen fills with gas to the point that it will become tight enough to play like a drum.This is a very serious condition as it can decrease her circulation and must be treated by a vet immediately.

Fainting:
Often related to heart disease, fainting can occur when your dog gets excited and his heart has failed to pump enough blood to his brain.Fainting can also be caused by low glucose levels in the blood which is often a result of strenuous exercise.Either way, if your dog faints, take him to the vet ASAP.

Falling:
When a dog falls over for no apparent reason, it can be an indication that she has an inner ear infection. This is very treatable and can be cured with a trip to the vet and a course of antibiotics.

Heat Stroke:
One of the most common summer ailments dog suffer from is heat stroke.This can come on very rapidly even if your dog has not been outside in the heat for a prolonged period of time.If your dog shows any of the following signs, move him to a shady spot and pour cool water all over his body and then take him to the vet immediately:

* Heavy panting
* Glazed eyes
* Rapid pulse
* Bright red gums
* Unsteadiness
* Vomiting

Shock:
A dog can suffer from four different types of shock: hypovolemic, cardiac, neurogenic or septic.All four exhibit similar symptoms including:

* Pale mucous membranes (inside of the mouth, gums, eyes, etc.)
* Weakness
* Rapid pulse
* Tangible loss of heat to the extremities, particularly the ears.

The most common type of shock is hypovolemic, occurring when there is not enough blood circulating throughout the body.The cause can include internal or external bleeding or poor circulation. Cardiac shock occurs when the heart cannot pump blood fast enough.Neurogenic shock, although rare, can occur when the dog suffers a massive brain or spinal cord injury. Septic shock occurs when an infection has reached the blood stream.

If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms or experiences any type of injury that can cause shock, take him to the vet immediately.

Home Remedies For Itchy Dogs

Home Remedies For Itchy Dogs

Author: itchyitchydog

There are many possible reasons that could be causing your dog to itch so much. Parasites in the skin, skin infections, mange, dry skin, allergies, or your dog may not be getting the proper nutrition they need.

If you suspect that your dog is itching because of a skin infection, or a parasitic infection, here are a couple of herbs that may help with your dog's skin conditions. Whenever my dog is itching, I am always wary to put on store bought itch relievers, as my dog tends to lick the area as well as scratch it. These two herbs are safe to use, and you won't have to worry about your dog getting sick from licking it off.

Calendula, also known as Marigold, is great for skin infections. Thyme is also great for skin infections, and it has natural antiseptic properties that will that will clean out and help to heal your dog's skin issue. Thyme also helps to fight parasitic infections that may be causing your dog to itch so much.

To take advantage of these herbs you can make a strong tea with a calendula or thyme tea bag. Use 2 tea bags for one cup water. When it cools you can either put it in a spray bottle to spray directly onto the problem areas, or you can put the tea into your dog shampoo and use it as a rinse.

If your dog's skin is flaky and appears dry, instead ofusing the herbs above you can try olive oil. Dogs with dry itchy skin may not be getting the essential oils they need to condition their skin. Canned and dry dog food does not give a dog nearly enough of the nutrients they need. If this is the case it is a good idea to put a tablespoon of olive oil in their food.

Olive oil contains healthier fat than corn oil and butter, and it contains no cholesterol. Olive oil is very helpful for the skin and hair, and it helps in digestion. It will help your dog have a shiny coat.

Olive oil can also be applied directly to the skin to further help condition and soothe an itchy dog's skin, just be careful of it rubbing off of them onto other things, such as your couch or the carpet.

Fish oil is also a good choice for giving your dog healthy skin. I give my dog a fish oil capsule once a day, as well as some olive oil in her food. Both olive oil and fish oil will help with dry skin.

If you are looking for at home remedies, olive oil and fish oil will help your dog have healthier skin and coat, while Calendula and Thyme will help combat skin infections, and skin conditions, all without side affects or the warning of possibly causing any type of harm to your dog.

The History of Dog Clothes - How Did your Dog Came to Wear Clothes?

The History of Dog Clothes - How Did your Dog Came to Wear Clothes?

Author: Caroline Miller

Do you know the history of dog clothes?

Dog clothes were first and foremost worn in the military and regulation enforcement regions, in order to save the dog from neighboring atmosphere and assaults. Nowadays, dogs are also used as watchful sniffers in police departments, army and investigation departments. But a dog's chief responsibility is to be a darling to a person or a family. For this basis, dog clothing has altered with time. Dog cloths go an extensive line of attack in defensive mode for your dog. These protect your dog from cuts, scrapes, bruises, infections and bad weather. The foremost meaning is to keep the dog dry and warm. Animals are being dressed for centuries now. But now the meaning of dressing your dog has changed to a great extent. At that time, clothes were used to guard the horses and dogs from outside rudiments and attacks. But now they are a symbol of trend and fashion. There are garments in particular designed for extraordinary events and proceedings such as weddings and birthdays. Halloween and Christmas outfits are some of the most admired festivals during which people prefer to dress their dogs in Santa fashion garment or princess gowns to make them look attractive.

Dog clothes comprise of all sorts of clothes that are limited to dogs. Body suits, dog sweaters, small dog coats, dog dresses, t-shirts, tank tops and sweatshirts are just a few items to choose from. Dog boots, leashes, tags and hair clips are some garnishes that accolade a dog's attire. Other frills and ornaments take in, collars, jackets bathrobes, beds, boots, carriers, raincoats and toys. Dog clothes are not necessarily made for winter time. Buy a dog coat for your dog this summer.

Even big dogs are conservatory of themselves and you could get dog t-shirts with funny sayings or bright colors to show-off your dog's personality. Buying big dog clothes is also another way to demonstrate them your care. Small dog clothes are now the standard and big dog owners don't want their big child stay deprived of them. What sort of clothes look excellent on big dogs? Big dogs look grand in dog t-shirts and tanks. Tanks are much simpler to put on the dog for the reason that there is meek fight with getting their big paws through the sleeves, and tanks are much easier to take off, in addition. But the key point is that it is immaterial what clothes you buy for your dog. They should fit properly and look good. Careful measuring assures that the dog has an easy fit and will take pleasure in wearing the clothing. Your dog should not feel uncomfortable wearing them. If your dog feels slightest of inconvenience, he will become restless or clumsy. Your dog can not complain about the clothes. He will wear whatever you put on him. But dogs have a different way of showing their discomfort. You will, as masters, need to understand your dog yourself. Follow the regulations properly and buy clothes for your dog. Consider things like dimensions, weather conditions, and skin type before buying clothes for your much loved dog.

American Bulldogs and Effective Obedience Training

American Bulldogs and Effective Obedience Training

Author: Ricardo Lumbardo

American bulldogs have a very strong personality which is one of the reasons why these dogs are so popular all over the world today. This breed is athletic, muscular and quite powerful but they are still suitable around children. You should know that not everyone can handle a bulldog well because of the natural instincts that this breed has. For this reason most experts recommend these dogs should only be considered by families that have some experience with dogs beforehand. Training these dogs will need patience, resources and hard work but it definitely pays off well.

Strong Minded and Stubborn Breed
The most important personality trait of American bulldogs is their stubbornness. These dogs are strong minded and therefore they will need obedience training and socializing at a very young age. Their natural trait makes them aggressive and strong and handling their behavior and attitude may become difficult later on if they are not well trained early on in their life. Handling them would be easier if you already have some amount of experience and have had pets before.

Obedience Training
American bulldogs need a lot of obedience training. These dogs are dominant by nature
so they would not prefer being controlled. However, you can cure this by training them well. You will have to establish yourself as the master and will have to be careful enough not to be submissive or be controlled by them. You must know that they also get bored quite quickly and easily. For this reason you will have to keep introducing new treats and rewards when they obey commands. Avoid punishments since they don’t work too well with them. Instead, motivate them by treating them with their favorite dog treats.

It is also very important to socialize these dogs at a very early age. Since they have a fierce and aggressive nature, they may not be well behaved around strangers and may be aggressive towards them. If you don’t socialize them right from a very young age you will not be able to control their behavior around others. Expose your puppy to other individuals, to pets and dogs round. These dogs have a guarding instinct so they can be aggressive around people they are not familiar with. Start socializing right away once you get your pup home so they will be friendlier with others. Although they have a dominant nature they are still quite trainable. With consistent training, patience and the right training methods, American bulldogs can be made very loyal and lovable and will be easier to control.
