Toys For All Dogs

Author: Andrew87

As many of you may know, owning a dog is a huge responsibility. It takes time, money, hard, work and dedication. As a dog owner my self I understand the need and use of dog toys.

If you purchase a puppy you will have to go through all the wonderful stages of a maturing dog. One of those stages being the chewing stage. There are several reasons a dog will chew some of them include:

* Excess energy – when a dog gets board laying around the house and has nothing to do they will usually find something to chew on as a form of entertainment and a way to release excess energy. Unfortunately if you don't provide an alternative your dog will most likely target your personal belongings (shoes, belts, couch, chair, carpet…) replacing all of these items can get rather expensive. One way to avoid such a situation is to give your dog something else to chew on like a dog toy.
* Developing teeth- between three and six months of age your puppy will begin to loss his puppy teeth and develop new teeth this can be painful and your dog will look for something to chew on to lessen the discomfort. Providing a chew toy will give your puppy a way to lessen the discomfort without sacrificing your personal belongings.
* Play- All dogs love to play. I have three dogs and when they play they will grab what ever is available and start the biggest game of tug-a-war you can imagine. If your pillow, shoe, or hat happen to be the unfortunate victim of this game you can kiss it goodbye. This is when a rope toy would come in handy. A rope toy can not only handle the abuse but your dogs will enjoy it as well.

Once your dog is out of the puppy stage and matures he will still have a need for dog toys and so will you. When you leave for work everyday your dog will be home alone. This will not only cause your dog to have some stress but it will also leave your dog with nothing to do. Dog toys will also provide you wit a way to interact with your dog that is enjoyable to both you and your dog.

This will take your relationship with your dog to a whole new level. It will allow you and your dog to create a bond and develop the trust required to create a long lasting partnership. Over time your dog will look to you for leadership which is the ultimate goal between you and your dog.

Improving Your Dogs Health: Achieving a Healthy Coat

Author: AnneMing

There are several different factors that influence how healthy a dog's fur coat is. Some of these factors include:

Genetics; Dogs can inherit healthy/unhealthy coats from their blood-line

What they eat; Diet plays a huge role in the overall health of a dog

Physical activity- Dog's should get at least 30-60minutes of exercise daily

Where they sleep- make sure your dog sleeps in a germ free environment

Grooming- Dogs need to be constantly groomed to ensure a fine and healthy coat

All the factors above, excluding genetics, are affected by you the dog's owner. You can make a difference how healthy your dog's coat is.
Diet

What your dog eats plays a huge role in the health of their coat, and their overall health. You should always listen to your local breeder's advice when it comes to diet. Most reputable breeders will give you a diet sheet to follow when purchasing a new puppy- follow the diet religiously and don't allow your dog to stray from the diet. Most diet sheets will include information on the dog's diet from birth to old-age.

Dogs are naturally scavengers, so they're very resistant to food poisoning and are able to eat just about anything. This does not however, mean they should eat anything; dogs should be fed food specifically made for them that will meet all their nutritional needs. Most dogs from the same litter will have similar diet needs. However, there will always be a few dogs in the litter that have special diet needs, and these needs must be met. If your breeder is unable to provide you with a diet that suits your dog well you'll need to seek professional help from your local vegetarian.
Natural Diet

Some dogs react much better to natural diets than artificial dog food diets. In fact, even if your dog doesn't specifically need a natural diet, it may be a better choice because of how much cheaper it could possibly be, and how healthy natural diets are for dogs. One example of a very healthy meal that would be consumed on a natural diet would be chicken with some brown rice.

There are many supplements that can be taken by your dog to help improve overall health. Some examples are primrose oil, starflower oil, and flaxseed oil. These oils are especially useful for dogs previously suffering from fleas or any allergy problem which may have cause poor coat health.

Cheese is also a great source of various nutrients for dogs, specifically calcium. Vegetables are just as good and could be given in small portions as treats. Fruits are also great for dogs, but be sure to avoid grapes which are poison to most breeds of dogs.

Most of the time, our doggie is happy to just strut the runway. But sometimes he likes to voice his political opinion. Usually a moderate, Pooch feels strongly that "NO NEW TEXANS" is the best thing for the USA. While he LOVES Texas, and most Texans, the USA hasn't exactly had good luck with presidents from the Lone Star State. Sorry, Governor Rick Perry.

Understanding Life through The Eyes of Your Dog

Understanding Life through The Eyes of Your Dog

Author: Eugenio Mccarthy

Unless you were born blind you already know how valuable your eyes and vision are in coping with life. Helping us to process information on the world around us, our eyes constantly work to help us enjoy life and avoid danger.

Dogs also use their eyes in similar ways but with a few minor important differences. We see far and near fine detail in a wide range of colors and shades. Dogs however, even sight hounds which have good vision, have a poorer color range and they are much better at detecting movement rather than detail. This gives them an advantage with night vision but they are poorer at seeing fine or close detail. The main advantage dogs have is that they don't have to rely purely on vision for information on their world. An acute sense of smell and excellent hearing, along with good motion sensing vision, mean that dogs sense much more of their surrounds than mere humans. This extended sensory ability made them ideal companions to early man when danger lurked around every corner.

Dogs eyes even look remarkably similar to human eyes. Like us, dogs have a range of eye colors although their predominant color is brown. One important difference between us is that dogs have a third eyelid called a nictitating membrane. Although this membrane is not easily seen, certain diseases and eye irritation can make it stand out. The third eyelid sits in the inside corner of a dogs eye and helps to protect it from irritation by cleansing and lubricating the eye.

Most of the eye diseases and problems seen in dogs are the same as those found in humans. One of the most common problems seen in dogs is due to simple eye irritation. The same environmental irritants that afflict us afflict our dogs. Dust, smoke and chemical pollution are the commonest cause of watery irritable eyes in our favorite pets. Apart from seeing red, teary eyes which are often swollen, you will likely observe your dog rubbing or scratching at their eyes. Look carefully at whether both or only one eye is irritated. Symptoms occurring in only one eye usually mean a foreign body or injury in the eye involved.

Blocked tear ducts can also produce excessively watery eyes in dogs as well as humans. In some dog breeds, such as older Poodles and Shih Tzu's, you will often see damp matted fur around their eyes that signals tear duct blockages. An expert opinion from a vet is often needed to tell the difference between the different causes of watery eyes.

Another trait that elderly dogs share with elderly humans is the development of cataracts. Most long term dog owners have seen the cloudy milky haze that spreads in the centre of each pupil as the cataracts form. This milky haze is the lens inside your dogs eye becoming opaque and the dog slowly becomes blind. It's important to distinguish cataract from another change called Lenticular Sclerosis. Lenticular Sclerosis is a condition which looks similar to cataract but where the only the center of the dogs lens hardens and vision remains unaffected. Both problems are seen in elderly dogs.

One significant advantage that aging dogs have compared to humans is that eye damage and blindness does not incapacitate them to the same extent as human blindness. Good hearing and an acute sense of smell compensate well. There are many stories told of blind dogs managing wonderfully well in life and it's a pity we aging humans are unable to see through the "eyes" of our beloved dogs at times!

Large Dog Clothes

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Cecil_V]Cecil V

After a long (but never long enough) day of snowboarding in Beaver Creek, Colorado; I hit the jacuzzi while my best friend took a nap. She is an eighty pound Boxer-mix named Nikita, a beautiful dog. I felt bad she couldn't join me on the slope, so I hopped out of the warm water and took her for a walk through the snowy mountain trails.

We saw another dog on the trail, a giant German Shepherd, wearing large dog clothes. I'm from San Diego. I hadn't seen a dog wearing clothes recently, but it looked comfortable, and Nikita somehow looked naked after that.

When we got back to the lodge, I bought Nikita her very own large dog clothes, and we went back to the cabin to try them on. She had a dog backpack she wore to go hiking in San Diego, but she hadn't worn dog clothes for a long time. I thought she would be fine, but as I pulled the shirt over her head she growled at me.

Turns out there was a pin in the tag. I removed it, and she was fine. I guess we're still best friends, because she loves wearing the large dog clothes I bought her on the trip.

We're back in San Diego now, and Nikita still wants to wear her clothes every time the temperature drops a few degrees. She sure is spoiled. Today she is wearing her favorite large dog clothes under her dog backpack. We are going to hike up a small mountain and play catch on the peak. She is carrying her own gear inside her dog backpack. She has all the important stuff with her: collapsible bowl, treats, collapsible Frisbee, tennis ball, water. When we reach the peak, we plan to howl into the cool wind; and remember that we are free.

Check out CVDB's [http://www.clothes4largedogs.com]LARGE DOG CLOTHES - they list all sizes by weight and take e-requests if you'd prefer to measure. CVDB also offers Nikita's favorite large [http://www.clothes4largedogs.com/large-dog-backpack.html]dog backpack.
